This competition is an exciting opportunity for Catholic Primary schools in the Rockhampton Diocese to come together in celebration under a sporting banner. Challenge Cup carnivals in the past have been great events that staff, parents and children have thoroughly enjoyed.
The Challenge Cup concept involves interested schools participating in Netball and Rugby League competitions run over three days at St Brendan’s College. Schools are invited to nominate one school team in each or either of the competitions and compete for the Netball Challenge Cup, the Rugby League Challenge Cup and the Catholic Schools Challenge Cup (best overall school performance). At the finals stage, teams are broken into pools and also compete for minor trophies.
The Year 5 & 6 cohort are fortunate to be involved in Surf Lifesaving sessions for six weeks each year. During these sessions at the beach students are shown correct rescue and survival skills, while thoroughly enjoying themselves at the same time.
We have a concert band program for students from Years 4 to 6. Students receive 1 lesson per week during class time and attend band practice before school 1 day per week. Teachers from Shalom Catholic College instrumental program work with our students. They perform for the public on various occasions such as PCYC, retirement homes, and eisteddfods.
We enter 2 teams every year for the Opti-Minds challenge. Preparation is done at school at lunchtimes and sometimes on weekends.
We have a chess club that meets on a rotational basis with a member from the local chess club who tutors our students on the finer points of this game.
Extra Curricula Activities
During the year we will offer students other extra curricula activities eg. Auskick, bike education. Parents are generally notified of these activities in the newsletter.
